19 Dec 2023

Tony

I am pleased to report that I have now received a V5C for my Raleigh Runabout DYS 821 C.

It has been a fairly complex process and your help and assistance throughout has been invaluable so thank you.

Kind regards

I just want to say a massive thank you to Tony Eyre for all his help in completing the forms for DVLA for my Raleigh Ultramatic 1968. Tony supplied me with my dating certificate and without his help, it would have been extremely difficult to navigate the application process for an age-related plate. Following investigations by DVLA, the vehicle has been identified and I received an original V5C registration.

Thank you once again,

Just to let you know, I have just received my V5C, and have been allowed to keep the original registration number, so very pleased.

Many thanks for all your help, I think I would have really struggled, you made things so much easier for me to do it.

I joined the club last year to get help with registering my first ever scooter project a Raleigh Roma Rs1.

I have dyslexia so I would of really struggled without the great help I received!  It made it so much easier for me to obtain my dating certificate and get the bike registered.
The club were a fantastic help ! Tony Eyre in particular!!

Applying to DVLA for a Vehicle Registration –

How the Raleigh Motorcycle and Early Reliant Club can help

The Driver Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) is responsible for all UK vehicle registration allocation
and management. Before the 1970s, vehicle registrations (marks) were issued and administered by
local licencing authorities (for example County Councils) but this was superseded by the creation of
DVLA. The handover of the then existing vehicle registration records from local bodies to DVLA was
not always carried out efficiently, which is why today applicants asking DVLA for an existing
registration mark sometimes find it is not recorded on the DVLA database.

There are two types of vehicle registration request that are generally requested from DVLA

1. Application for an Age-Related Registration (the machine has no registration and you don’t
know what it was).

2. Application for recovery of an Existing Registration (you have evidence of the registration for
the machine – reg plate and/or original buff log book or V5 – Tax Discs are NOT ACCEPTED
by DVLA.

In both cases, an application to DVLA will stand a greater chance of success if you submit as much
information to them as possible – it makes their job easier and quicker. Part of this is convincing
them that the vehicle you are requesting a registration for is:

  • Real – it exists in a complete form (it is ‘together’ as a viable vehicle and not in boxes of
    parts).

  • What you say it is – the vehicle type; manufacturer; model; year of manufacture are all
    correct.

The Raleigh Motorcycle and Early Reliant Club offers a service to help you with your application – for
a small fee we can provide:

  • A Machine/Vehicle Dating Certificate confirming vehicle type; manufacturer; model;
    year of manufacture.

  • Help in identifying the various DVLA forms required, and how to fill them in.

  • For an existing registration (case 2 above), advice on which local authority issued the
original registration and a contact for you to check if they have an archive service - if so
they may on request, issue you with a certificate stating the original registration entry
    from their records.

This sheet is intended for guidance only –
the applicant is responsible for checking and ensuring
they are following current DVLA requirements.New paragraph
